About Jo

Described by Marie Claire as “the First Lady of Colour” and hailed by American Vogue as “the best tinter on the planet”, Jo Hansford MBE is quite simply an icon in the field of hair colouring. Consequently, Jo is held in the highest regard by her peers in the industry and her celebrity clientele, who include HRH Duchess of Cornwall, Elizabeth Hurley, Yasmin Le Bon and Nigella Lawson.

Jo’s reputation as the leading authority in hair colour extends far and wide – she judges several of the prestigious L’Oreal Colour Trophy Awards internationally, including South Africa, Australia and India. Under Jo’s direction the team also travel extensively both educating hairdressers, and participating in seminars across the globe.

More than just a legendary colourist, Jo is also an astute businesswoman. With the help of Joanna Hansford, her daughter and Managing Director of the company, Jo was runner up in the Everywoman Business Awards in 2005. The salon was runner up in the Global Salon Business Awards in 2006 and also won the Financial Mail Enterprise Award for Sales and Marketing in 2000.

Jo was awarded her MBE for services to the hairdressing industry on 25^th November 2010. It was presented to her by the Princess Royal and Jo was delighted to receive it. She said of the experience ‘I am both humbled and honoured to receive such a prestigious award and be recognized for my dedication to the industry. Hairdressing has always been my passion and I am so fortunate to still be in a career that is so rewarding and enjoyable.’

Jo maintains ‘We should never stop learning... this industry is ever evolving and we must move with it... I still find it as exciting now as I did at the beginning of my career.’
